The person who I’m closest to is my niece, Shan. I am the last born of five children. My mum had four kids in her twenties and when she was in her forties, she gave birth to me. Thus, there is a twenty year age gap between my siblings and I. Being the baby has its perks. I am fondly protected and pampered too. My eldest sister’s daughter, Shan, and I were born in the same month and attended primary and secondary school together. We grew up as if we were twins; dressing alike and my mum would always say that you can't buy something for the one and not the other. We are very close and, although we’ve always had our own social circle and our own distinct personalities - the amount of similarities between us, are astounding.
She lives in another country, at present, but we speak almost everyday. When we see each other, there is a wand of wonderful emotional and fun experiences that we enjoy together. We’ve traveled South Africa, New Zealand, Germany and España together and who knows where we’ll wander off to next. We also have similar tastes in fashion and we happen to wear the same shoe size. Needless-to-say that when we were growing up, we'd raid each other's closets. Now as adults, we tend to discuss what we’d like from each other as opposed to just swiping a garment or pair of shoes. Shan is my mini-me. We are almost identical and when we were little, strangers could not tell us apart.
No one on this planet could ever substitute Shan and even though we are a million miles apart at present - true love proves to stand the test of time, distance and space and we simply couldn’t love each other more, even if we tried.
