One Less Care in the World

by EJ

I’ve been an admirer of Nicol’s work for the longest time. I think I had reached out to her for the first time in 2013 because somehow her artistry appeared on my feed and intrigued me enough to swipe through and keep track.

In 2020, I fainted whilst wearing spectacles, and the arm pierced my eye and left me with a scar and a damaged brow. Because of this, I have had to tint and fill my eyebrow to keep it even and neat.

This year, I finally decided to do something about it and made an appointment with Nicol to work her magic and make my brow whole again. She owns Blush, a beauty studio that offers intradermal cosmetic tattooing/semi-permanent make-up, microblading, paramedical treatments such as vitiligo treatment, scalp micropigmentation, areola tattooing, dermapening, and needling.

I must confess, I was nervous and doubtful before the session, as having a permanent treatment that could alter the appearance of one's face is daunting. I imagined all sorts of silly things that could potentially go wrong. I was reassured by remembering that I've been following her work for more than a decade and she is masterful at her vocation, and therefore there was simply nothing legitimate for me to fret about.

It was lovely to be in her presence. A warm, friendly, witty, and wonderful person she is, who has a remarkably sweet way of making one feel at ease. She conducted an evaluation, and through consultation, we jointly decided the course of action.

It was a twofold procedure, with the first session entailing microneedling to shape my brows so that they could be identical and to add pigment to darken and fill. She applied a numbing agent, and it was surprisingly less painful than what I thought it would be. If you are accustomed to plucking, waxing, and threading, this is no longer uncomfortable. After the treatment and for a week or so, I had to apply barrier cream, and I was presented with detailed aftercare instructions that were clear, concise, and easy to follow with minimal effort.

A month later, I went for my second session to touch up and finally no more tinting and filling in my brow. Both are renewed with color and definition, which looks beautiful and natural. I felt so confident in Nicol's skills that I decided to go back to her to add pigment to my lips too. This was also a two-fold procedure with a month in between. Both sessions were pleasant, and I am happy with the result.

I wonder why I waited so long to do this. I feel like a new person with one less care in the world.
