I’ve recently had the privilege of working on a business plan for a luxury goods portal. With this task came the research exercise of scanning the macro, market, and micro environments of the fashion, retail, and e-commerce operational spheres.
There is an evident shift in business toward more sustainable practices, not only in awareness drives but also in tangible terms, and more so in the last five years. Clear indications that corporations have adopted objectives to meet sustainable development have become apparent in their intentions for their respective vision and goals. It is the common current narrative within the business terrain and the forefront of models of innovation and disruption.
I became engrossed in the waves of change currently sweeping the globe. It made me question my own patterns and the screening criteria used in my purchasing practices. I found that lessening my carbon footprint by being more eco-friendly in my choices is invaluable to the contributing factors that will impact future generations. It is my responsibility to review my lifestyle and implement immediate alternatives to what was once considered acceptable norms. It is up to me to substitute, and I can start with simple things like my closet and pantry, for example. I’ve chosen these two categories to begin with based on all the information that I had gathered during this interesting exercise.
If the luxury goods industry is able to apply complex concepts to the entire world of fashion in a creative yet contemporary manner, my question is, “Why can’t I do the same in my every-day existence?”
