The Skin I'm In

by EJ

I had severe eczema as a kid, and my skin would have an irritated reaction to just about everything from tags in clothing, soaps, lotions, ointments, bites, materials, foods, and liquids to even the air sometimes. It was an unpleasant experience and difficult to understand. Thankfully, I had eventually grown out of that horrible phase, and as an adult, I realise that I have to make a concerted and conscious effort to take care of my sensitive skin.

Beauty is an inside job, and overall health constitutes optimal functioning of the body holistically. I therefore consistently ensure that I have a nutrient-dense diet that aids all the facets of my body and am also aware of the importance of managing negative triggers such as stress. It is imperative to have a good skin care regime and have tested a variety of pharmaceutical, dermatological, and cosmetic brands in pursuit of products that have a positive effect on my skin's distinctive needs. I have found that Eucerin works best for my skin type, with a range of products for normal, oily, sensitive, and dry skin to choose from. My facial skin is dry in winter and oily in summer, while being sensitive all-year-round, and I therefore combine different products depending on my seasonal requirements. There are also numerous body lotions on offer, and I tend to dabble between a few formulas depending on what my needs are at any given time.

A simple yet striking quote by Rumi that sheds light from an alternative perspective states:

"I am not this skin; I am the soul that lives within."

I have the utmost respect for the attention to detail and extra care practiced by my beautician, Sogol from Sogol Beauty Studio. Not only is she great with lash extensions, I trust her implicitly with my face and have no doubt that I am in the best hands when visiting her for treatments.

Over time, I have developed a deep appreciation for my body's biggest organ's unique composition of scent, marks, scars, dimples, moles, melatonin and all that it is in entirety, as after all, it is the skin I'm in.
