The very nature of vivacious vines is to satiate, as they encompass substantial nutrients in their entirety. The vices thereof are up to the cultured cultivar and, ultimately, the curious connoisseur. I am a mere conservative consumer who is in constant awe of the charmingly creative chain of innovative individuals who produce splendidly scrumptious inventions for our sheer pleasure. When travelling abroad, concerted effort is made to test the beverages on offer in order to compare them to home-grown wines, and this rigorous exercise has proven the fact that we have an array of remarkable products in South Africa. There are over one hundred different varieties of grapes grown locally, and as a result, we are spoilt for choice with so many wine farms on our doorstep in the Cape that cultivate a wide range of sparkling, dessert, rose, red, and white wines. The categories of red wines include Merlot, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinotage, and Cinsault, and white wines comprise of Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, Colombard, and Sauvignon Blanc. Each of which has a distinct fragrance, flavour, texture, and taste simply because some are made from a particular type of singular grape, while others are blends of more than one type of grape. My personal preferences are a red wine, Shiraz or Syrah in particular; I can also appreciate sparkling and rose, and the most delicious dessert wine that I have ever been served is by far the Red Muscat D'Alexandrie, all of which can be found in my favourite wine region, Constantia.
After a heaty meal at one of the restaurants at Groot Constantia, the wine and chocolate pairing is an entertaining activity that everybody enjoys.
I have found an excellent book to assist with suggestions and recommendations when I am overwhelmed with options, in need of some ideas and inspiration, and feel as though I am unsure of where to begin. Therein a sophisticated sommelier, Jean Vincent Ridon, elaborates on what dish to pair with an exact wine, and it is called Passion for Pairing.
A luxurious and carefully curated compilation that meticulously illustrates local cuisines and the best beverage combinations such as Black Truffle with Steenberg Nebbiolo, Fairview Brie and Romond Vineyards Rebus Cabernet Fanc, Cape Gooseberry and Macadamia Dessert, and Cederberg Bukettraube, as well as the very interesting and intriguing Little Black Number and Adoro Mourvedre.
This depicts the perfect way in which vivacious vines can please your senses through the art of coupling, which makes for the perfect possession for all who dare to pair.
